Continental Kennel Club
Is rapidly becoming one of the top registries in the United States as well as other countries. Like other clubs, we register purebred dogs, but unlike other clubs we accept dogs that have been previously registered with other clubs. This allows a wider gene pool and creates healthier dogs within the breed. CKC also offers picture registrations, a toll free 1 800 customer service number, and performance events across the nation. For more informJust remember that the AKC is not a promise of a better dog, and the CKC does not mean that the dog is not as high quality. This is not saying that either registery is better than the other, but rather to look at the quality of the pup, not the registration club.
This was forwarded to me by the CKC:

AKC
Does offer what is known as an Indefinite Listing Priviledge Program. This means that you can pay the AKC $35, send two photos of your dog and proof from a vet that it has been spayed or neutered and they will registered the dog in this special program so they can participate in companion and performance events, BUT NOT conformation or breeding. If they offer this, I don't see how they can be a truly closed registery. More info here http://www.akc.org/reg/ilpex.cfm.
This was pulled from the akc.org website about the
ILP Program:
If you have a purebred dog that cannot be registered with the AKC and have a desire to see what your dog can do in real competition, an ILP number is your ticket to the world of AKC events and clubs!
Indefinite Listing Privilege Program (ILP): The program that provides purebred dogs a second chance. There are various reasons why a purebred dog might not be eligible for registration. The dog may the product of an unregistered litter, or have unregistered parents. The dog's papers may have been withheld by its breeder or lost by its owner. Sometimes, it is the dog itself that was "lost." There are many dogs enrolled in the ILP program after they have been surrendered or abandoned, then adopted by new owners from animal shelters or purebred rescue groups. The ILP program allows the dog and owner a second chance at discovering the rewards of participating in AKC events.
Again Thanks for let us put it on our website.
